A Little Impromptu Backyard Siphon

A Little Impromptu Backyard Siphon

These days we get so much used to making appointments ahead of time and then meet, even among friends. But that's not what happened that day when my friend J messaged me: "Hey, do you have a minute and I will drop by?" I answered "Yes". Five minutes later, she showed up at my door. She is good at photography.  And that was the second day after I posted about siphon coffee on my social network. So, I offered: "Do you want to take pictures about Siphon?" That's how it all got started.

It didn't take long for us to set it up in the backyard. And that was a warm early Spring afternoon. Tender green leaves spout on the twigs. Days of rain made the air so clean and moist. Light and cozy for a little afternoon coffee.

I poured the boiled water into the lower vacuum bowl of the siphon coffee maker.

Put on the brewer compartment on, then heat it up. I had always thought siphon is dynamic and even thrilling as the nearly still water can become full of momentum in just one blink. But at that moment, I started to feel the different side of siphon.

We used our  Ethiopia Shakiso beans, which was quite delicate and floral, with mild honey lemon flavors. Before long, we got a pot of well brewed siphon coffee. The color was gorgeous.

Ready to serve.

Fried okras and almond crackers, to accompany coffee.

Transferring the coffee to a pre-warmed carafe. Look at the purity and the color of the coffee!

And then pouring it into tiny coffee cups. They are of the perfect sizes for coffee tasting. Yes, these cute little cups can be used for tea as well.

We were trying to capture of the lustrous red color of the coffee under the sun light. Steam came off the carafe, gently dancing in the Spring breeze. We found it soothing and peaceful.

We made the coffee a little light, so as to suit the lighthearted mood of Spring afternoon. That was a smooth and sweet cup, very moist, delicate and light, yet with subtle nuances.

A beautiful cup of coffee! The lustrous and transparent color shined like amber.

That day, I discovered the serenity side of siphon coffee.
